Studies in Scarlet: Marriage and Sexuality in the U.S. and U.K., 1815-1914 contains digitized images of more than 420 separately published trial narratives from the extensive collections of the Harvard Law School Library. Included in the collection are American, British, and Irish cases from 1815-1914 involving child custody, bigamy, and violent crime as it relates to sex and marriage. Per Petterson coming to CSB

International award-winning author Per Petterson conducts a reading from his latest book, I Curse the River of Time, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 at Gorecki Family Theater in the BAC. The event, which is free and open to the public, is one of just five public appearances the Norwegian-born author will be making in the United States in support of his latest book. Many CSB/SJU readers know Petterson for his earlier work, Out Stealing Horses. It received the New York Times Best Book of the Year award and the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. It also received "Book of the Year" awards from the Cleveland Plain Dealer and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune newspapers, and Time magazine.

36% of online Americans consult Wikipedia

More than one-third of American adult Internet users consult the citizen-generated online encyclopedia Wikipedia, according to the Pew Internet & American Life Project. And on a typical day, 8 percent of online Americans consult Wikipedia.


Wikipedia is one place to start when understanding your research topic but another place would be Credo Reference. It is a huge collection of great reference books: encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographies, measurement conversions and much more!

We also subscribe to Oxford Reference Online and Gale Reference Online, both contain great collections of reference books! You can find these under "Articles & More" then "Encyclopedias & Dictionaries" on the library's homepage.
