Check the DVD Browser for latest movies!

Want to browse new titles in the DVD collection from the comfort of your home? Do you prefer to look at DVD covers rather than titles in a list? Want to see the newest of the new?

Then browse the Clemens and Alcuin Library DVD collection online with our DVD Browser! Leave comments, rate your favorite movies, check our catalog for availability and consult IMDb for a plot synopsis. If you know the title of the movie you're interested in use the search box at the bottom of the page to locate the title.

Check it out and let us know what you think!

There’s kissing, lasers, and dead bodies in the library

Here's an idea: Why not read a novel? Not some big, heavy, required reading kind of novel– something that you want to read. Try some popular fiction! The romance that makes your knees swoon, the sci-fi you grew up with, the horror novels that keep you up at night, and graphic novels galore. Alcuin and Clemens Library has these books and plenty of them. Really!

You might know us as the place with computers, course reserves, DVD's and the MLA Handbook but we have the bestsellers that won’t stay on the shelves and the genre classics that we’ve all read, loved and seen the film versions of.

So the next time you can’t face another chapter of your textbook or just need to get lost in kissing, lasers and dead bodies, get yourself a book to curl up with from Alcuin or Clemens Library. We won’t tell your instructor, we promise.

Check out Clemens & Alcuin Reads to find the latest books available for check-out!

Think Wikipedia- Use Credo Instead!

The Library is always thinking about YOU! We subscribe to a online resource called Credo Reference. It is a huge collection of great reference books: encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographies, measurement conversions and much more!

We also subscribe to Oxford Reference Online and Gale Reference Online, both contain great collections of reference books! You can find these under "Articles & More" then "Databases A-Z" or "Research Help" then "Quick References" on the library's homepage.

Think wikipedia, then use our reference resources instead!

ELM Update

ELM (also known as Electronic Library for Minnesota) gives Minnesota residents access to magazine, journal, and newspaper articles, as well as a variety of other sources. Many of the databases available via ELM are familiar: Academic Search Premier, Business Source Premier, ProQuest Newsstand (just to name a few). We still have access to all the old resources, as well as several new ones.

Most notably, starting July 1, 2009, we have access to a few key new resources that I'd like to bring to your attention.

Expanded Academic ASAP
http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/mnastbens?db=EAIM

This is a general purpose academic database similar to EBSCO's Academic Search Premier, but from Gale. In fact, we used to get this before we had Academic Search Premier, but now we're fortunate enough to have both. You'll find some overlap, but also a fair amount of unique titles, making the combination quite good.

HealthSource: Nursing/Academic Edition
http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=ehost&defaultdb=hch

Contains nearly 550 scholarly full text journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Coverage of nursing and allied health is particularly strong. In addition, this database includes the Lexi-PAL Drug Guide which covers 1,300 generic drug patient education sheets with more than 4,700 brand names.

Points of View Reference Center
http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?&authtype=ip,uid&site=pov

EBSCO brings together a wide variety of resources for basic research on a number of controversial and hot topics. Excellent for first year students, or for anybody wanting to quickly come up to speed on a issue.

Science Reference Center
http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?authtype=ip,uid&profile=ehost&defaultdb=sch

Provides easy access to a multitude of full text science-oriented content. Science Reference Center contains full text for hundreds of science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, and other sources.

St. Cloud Times

http://proquest.umi.com/pqdweb?RQT=318&TS=1251130936&clientId=47943&VType=PQD&VName=PQD&VInst=PROD&pmid=6873&PageNum=1

Full text coverage of the St. Cloud Times from ProQuest, January 2004 - current.

----

We are very fond of ELM Databases here at CSB/SJU as they provide a great wealth of resources for scholarly research. You can thank the Minnesota Legislature for providing the money to fund these for the state.
