America and the Holocaust

Companion to a PBS American Experience documentary about what "social and political factors shaped America's response to the Holocaust," including the temporary "'paper wall,' a bureaucratic maze that prevented all but a few Jewish refugees from entering the country." Includes details about one man's struggle against the bureaucracy, a guide to people and events of the Holocaust (such as Raoul Wallenberg, the Bermuda Conference, and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising), interview transcripts, and primary sources.

Trial: Shakespeare Survey

We're running a 30-day trial (ends October 11) to Shakespeare Survey Online. Give it a whirl and let us know what you think.

http://cco.cambridge.org/

Here's the publisher's description of the database:

Shakespeare Survey is a yearbook of Shakespeare studies and production. Since 1948 Survey has published the best international scholarship in English and many of its essays have become classics of Shakespeare criticism.

Each volume is devoted to a theme, or play, or group of plays; each also contains a section of reviews of that year's textual and critical studies, and of the year's major British performances. The virtues of accessible scholarship and a keen interest in performance, from Shakespeare's time to our own, have characterised the journal from the start.

The books are illustrated with a variety of Shakespearean images and production photographs.

Shakespeare Survey Online makes all issues of the Survey, including over 90% of the original images, available online for the first time. Volume 60, due in October 2007, will be added to Shakespeare Survey Online on publication.

Use the library's Flickr account to find books!

On the library's Flickr account, we post pictures of the Clemens Reads and Alcuin Reads shelves. On the pictures you can move your mouse over the books to read about them and get a link to our catalog. So, find a great book to read using our Flickr photos!

Also on our account, you'll find our This Day in History series! Two or three days of each week are showcased with a historical event that happened in history on that day and materials in our library that are about that event. Watch the campus bulletin board to find the postings for this series!
